The boys at Volpino in Mount Martha

Our Story

Volpino was created by three Mornington Peninsula mates with the ambition to create a destination which is more than just a place to eat.  It’s about fun and providing an experience that everyone enjoys, customers and staff alike. The boys at Volpino in Mount Martha know their stuff from food to wine, pairing and sharing.  The most important thing to them is communicating with their customers, getting to know them and what they like.

Inspired by the Mediterranean,  Volpino is one of the most casual, friendly Mornington peninsula restaurants.

David and Simon as brothers, have a shared background but have come to Volpino on different paths.  From a young age they trained in food handling (and appreciation) in their grandfather’s chocolate shop.

David has been involved with several Peninsula venues over the past 10 years including The Rocks Mornington and Fork to Fork at Heronswood, He was also part owner of Ciao Bella Pizza.  David is widely travelled, and has spent lengthy periods in Northern Italy with his Italian partner, Marta and learning about the local cuisine from her family.  David’s younger brother, Simon was a school teacher and a hobby farmer prior to moving to the Peninsula.  He has reared rare-breed animals, producing salamis and prosciutto.  His great love is rock-climbing, which he does in every spare moment. Don’t be surprised to see him suspended from the ceiling during a quiet moment in the restaurant.   Simon has also worked in all facets of restaurants in the UK and Melbourne.

Chef, Nathan, did much of his early training at famed eatery Italy 1 before his family decided on a sea change and headed down to the Peninsula.  Nathan ended up working with David  at Ciao Bella where the two forged a close working relationship.  When cooking Nathan’s passion is for working with the freshest ingredients possible and letting the product speak for itself!  Nathan is a keen gardener, with a particular interest in super hot chilli when he is not busy behind the stoves.  Nathan is a fanatical Geelong supporter.  You are likely to get a particurlarly good meal after a Geelong victory.

Located directly opposite the Mount Martha beach, Volpino is a great venue for an afternoon drink and pizza, a family gathering or a romantic dinner for two. Extensive outdoor seating, coupled with an exceptional hand-picked wine and beer list, ensure that a seat in summer will be at a premium, so get in early, or even better, book a table today. The boys are able to cater for all sorts of functions and special celebrations alike, just give them a call.
